Joel Rathmann, Baritone

As early as I can remember, singing has always been a big part of my life. From staring in wonder at PBS broadcasts of opera in the early 90s to performing professionally on various stages across the Midwest, my vocal journey has allowed me to receive a strong education (Master of Music: Vocal Performance, University of Wisconsin-Madison | Bachelor of Music: Vocal Performance, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh), perform in various roles (Figaro, Le Nozze di Figaro | Papageno, Die Zauberflöte | Padre, Man of La Mancha | Vicar, Albert Herring | Bob, The Telephone | Colas, Bastien und Bastienne) and be a featured soloist/section leader in various ensembles (Bel Canto Chorus (current), Sacra Nova Cathedrale, Milwaukee Chamber Choir, Basilica of Saint Josaphat Choir, Madison Symphony Orchestra, UW Choral Union).

Leuthner-Rathmann Voice Studio

When I am not singing or running the studio I am working as a High School Counselor. I am a firm believer in teaching, sharing, and giving which is how the Leuthner-Rathmann (or LR for short) Voice Studio came into being: to share music and the passion of singing through teaching.

My Philosophy

I liken my philosophy of singing to that of a Japanese Garden: highlighting the natural while avoiding the artificial. Singing, in my humble opinion, is very much the same. It is a natural part of our human ability that we are all capable of. My objective is to help you highlight that natural beauty through classical vocal techniques, aural training, and healthy singing techniques from vocal pedagogical theory.
